Posted on February 07 2018
With wellness as a main subject of beauty and health blogs and magazines, 2017 was the year of the self We had no shortage of trends to hit the scene that promised to help you discover your best self and put you on track for a more active, healthy lifestyle. As 2018 begins, try out these beauty and wellness trends that made headlines late last year and are still picking up steam. There's a reason that they're trending!
All-Natural, All the Time
Natural beauty product sales hit an all-time high last year, with both established and start-up “clean beauty” companies seeing major success. Consumers enjoy knowing what is in their makeup and beauty products, and they want to care for and improve their bodies with natural, nourishing, and organic ingredients rather than hard-to-pronounce synthetics and chemicals. The clean beauty movement is surely here to stay and will be on-trend for the foreseeable future.
We’ve known for years that alcohol isn’t good for us, but it seems like it’s finally time to heed the warning. Many event planners are keeping the fabulous parties but ditching the alcohol, and it’s becoming more popular to substitute your regular Friday night bash with a more meditative social gathering, often complete with mediation spaces and free herbal tea.
Green Thumbs Up
Small, adorable succulents are all the rage these days, and spaces from the smallest apartments to the largest corporate offices are adorned with ‘living walls’ and fresh flowers and plants. Not only do they add variety and beauty to your home or office, these popular, low maintenance plants release beneficial, mood-boosting essential oils and natural fragrances to improve your health.
Paleo is out, keto is in. Ketogenic diets hit the scene recently and have inspired foodies everywhere to revamp their nutrition. Since it focuses on inducing ketosis (a fat-burning, muscle-maintaining state), this low-carb, high fat (good fats like avocados, coconut oil, and almonds) and protein-rich diet has helped thousands achieve their wellness goals.
This trend focuses more on internal wellness, and has inspired millions of women to band together in sisterly support. 2017 was full of rousing feminist movements, like the highly attended Women’s March and the empathetic #MeToo campaign, helped bond women together like never before. We hope this trend continues for years to come!
Forget the expensive gym membership—fitness companies like Peloton and BeachBody have made it easier than ever to make time in your busy schedule for a great workout. Gone are the days of cheesy aerobics videos; today you can stream a live or pre-recorded class from some of the best instructors in the industry without ever leaving your house.
Perhaps best of all, during the past year everyday people and celebrities alike used social media as a platform to show real, raw moments and encourage acceptance of our own uniqueness and flaws. In a world where it’s so easy to be critical of oneself and others, this is perhaps the best trend of all.
